What do you like/dislike in RPs?

So today I began accepting applications for my new RP on livejournal (the link in my sig will take you to my post about it in the Affiliate with Us section of Ala's forums). We've already got some interest and I'm super excited. I've been a mod on many RPs but I've never really handled one by myself before. Since there's loads of people who RP on Ala, I decided to make a post here asking for opinions.

I'm curious as to what you guys like and dislike about roleplays you've been in, so that I can make mine a better place.

What settings have you always wanted to see? What events have you always thought about, or what events from past roleplays have you liked or disliked? What are some ways to encourage interaction between characters? What is your favorite part about RPing?

For example, in the last RP I was in, we had a marriage event that I totally enjoyed. The mods sent out a message to all the players saying that they had been temporarily, randomly married to someone else in the RP. The results were totally crazy and made for some hilarious logs - like one of my characters who was a huge scary zombie-like man ended up married to a teenage girl who was terrified of him and spent most of the RP hiding from him in the bathroom. I never otherwise would have interacted with this character, so the marriage event forced us to and it was great.

Basically I'm asking in a nutshell - What would your perfect RP be like? What suggestions do you have for a new RP?

What makes roleplays good to me are 1) An engageng plot, that not only involes the lead characters (creators characters) but everyone eles. 2) Foreshadowing! Hints to tell what is to come, subtle, seemingly meaningless to the adverage person. 3) Details! Pleanty of nice details to seem like your story pops. 4) Some nice, complexing characters. (Mainly provided by the roleplayers. But,it always helps when the creator has good characters!) 5) Room to breath! This,to me is the most important, keep rules loose and flowing. Say,if you kept such a tight leash on your role play,it would become strangled, and die. Unless, say if it was a wolf rp which relys on a heiarchy. (Which should be allowed to be broken in the actual roleplay rules.)

I own my own role-play sites but I don't like one-liners and illiterate people that speak like *He pushes boulders down and runs downhill*...It irritates me if people speak that way. That's why I make all of my role-plays open to *Literate* people who can post more than one line..:3
